Saher Nassar (b. Gaza, 1986) presents a surreal meditation on origin, power, and vulnerability through the figure of the soldier—a recurring presence in the Palestinian experience. This work reflects on the longing for recognition from one’s maker, and the burden of being shaped by systems of domination. By juxtaposing symbols of beauty, fragility, and control, Nassar draws parallels between mythic narratives and the lived reality of Palestinians born into militarized landscapes, where identity and worth are often defined by forces far beyond their choosing.
