Falling Angel No. 3 by Bashar Alhroub

Bashar Alhroub (b. Jerusalem, 1978) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work reflects on identity, vulnerability, and belonging within the context of Palestine’s fragmented and occupied landscape. In this work, a fluid figure is divided between a golden glow and a darker realm scattered with the outlines of homes. The golden side suggests light, individuality, and the pursuit of selfhood, while the shadowed half quietly invokes the idea of home—a place longed for, lost, and often denied. For Palestinians, the image of the house is never just architectural; it is bound to questions of return, displacement, and the right to exist. Through this divided figure, Alhroub meditates on the personal and collective struggle to remain whole in the face of fragmentation.
