In Nabil Anani’s Sabastiya, his depiction of Palestine carries a more dream-like take with the use of unnatural colors to portray the growing landscape. Purple trees and roots sprout from the grass painted in hues of blue and yellow. The buildings and homes depicted in the background overlook the fantasy of nature. Some of the trees have withered down and lost it’s leaves, conjoining with the solemness of the grey sky. It seems a quiet Winter has overtaken the scene, contrasting with the vibrancy of the rolling hills and the purple grove.
