Concealed No. 5 by Bashir Makhoul
Bashir Makhoul’s (b. Galilee, 1963) Concealed series reflects his enduring preoccupation with the idea of home—a theme central to his practice. Each silkscreen work features abstracted depictions of houses layered over fields of bold, varying color, evoking both familiarity and displacement. The repeated motif of the house speaks to a longing for rootedness and stability, especially within the context of Palestinian exile and memory. In Concealed, Makhoul explores the tension between visibility and erasure, presence and absence—suggesting that even when home is out of reach, its image endures as a powerful marker of identity and resistance.
