Shadow of the Shadow by Bashar Khalaf: In this series of works ‘Shadow of the Shadow,’ Bashar Khalaf presents a continuation of his artistic journey, initiated in 2014. Featuring a set of paintings through which Bashar engaged in a dialogue with and thorough study of a previous generation of artists who became influential Palestinian icons of cultural consciousness and national belonging. As an aspiring young artist, Khalaf deconstructs and then re-arranges symbols in his paintings, presenting them in a new, personal perspective.

Bashar Khalaf was born in Ramallah in 1991. He earned a BA in Fine Art from Al-Quds University in 2013. In 2014, he won the first prize at the 8th Young Artist of the Year Award (YAYA), by the A M Qattan Foundation for his project Shadow of the Shadow. Khalaf regards this award as a milestone for his career as an emerging artist both in terms of boosting his artistic development and as an opportunity to make himself known on the local and international art scene. In 2015, Khalaf was awarded the first prize at the Ismail Shammout Award in Fine Art, organized by Dar al-Kalima University College of Arts & Culture.
He has participated in several workshops at Al-Mahatta Gallery and other institutions in Palestine. His works have been shown in numerous group exhibitions both locally, in various Palestinian cities, and internationally in Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
