Anani’s work focuses on the symbolism of the olive tree, a major component of Palestine’s landscape. For him, the destruction of the olive tree by Israeli forces reflects the plight of the people living under occupation. Perhaps the aim of this work is not only to depict the apartheid wall but to reduce and diminish it by contrasting it with a greater imagined landscape of Jerusalem and its people in the hope of change.
