Homeland by Nabil Anani
A major component of Nabil Anani’s (b. Latroun, 1943) work is his depiction of Palestine and it’s people. Titled Homeland, we see a Palestinian women seemingly carrying the cityscape of Jerusalem on her shoulders, baring the weight of this significant cultural landmark. Her embroidered dress contains a symbolic reminder of her heritage, all key components of Palestine, such as the olive trees, and colorful geometric designs. We see other Palestinians standing side by side or by their homes. It is apparent that this landmark fosters a community of companionship and belonging, as they all share the same roots; the same homeland.
