Holy Tree by Bashar Alhroub
Bashar Alhroub (b. Jerusalem, 1978) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice reflects on place, identity, and belonging within the context of Palestine’s political and emotional landscape. Rooted in cultural memory, Alhroub often returns to the olive tree as a central symbol in his work—an emblem of Palestinian history. In this series, the tree is rendered in stark black, but each version is set against a different vibrant background, creating nine distinct compositions. The repetition of the olive tree across shifting color fields lends the symbol both a personal and political charge—its form constant, yet the emotional tone evolving.
