Gaza by Wadei Khaled
Wadei Khaled (b. Al-Arroub Refugee Camp, 1986) presents a layered exploration of motherhood, resistance, and cultural memory. A woman stands central, her body bearing children and a weapon—symbols of both care and defiance. To her reach lays olive branches and fish, visual motifs that root her in the landscape of Gaza, where sustenance from the sea and the enduring olive tree hold deep historical and cultural weight. Emerging from the experience of exile, the painting reflects the entangled realities of life under occupation—where the personal is always political, and where even the symbols of daily life become carriers of historical continuity and struggle.
