A Stone Grows Downward by Alaziz Atef
Alaziz Atef is known for his on-site landscape paintings that capture the raw, unfiltered essence of Palestinian terrain. Through his work, he conveys the deep connection between land and identity, emphasizing the enduring presence of nature as a symbol of resilience. In this piece, a tree emerges from solid stone—an image that speaks to persistence in the face of adversity. It reflects the Palestinian experience: life pushing through layers of hardship, rooted in land that continues to endure. Born in Al-Arroub Refugee Camp in 1996, Atef now lives in Birzeit and develops his practice under the mentorship of artist Sliman Mansour.
