Silent Garden No. 1 by Bashar Alhroub

Silent Garden by Bashar Alhroub is a deeply personal art series shaped over several years, reflecting the artist’s enduring sense of isolation and alienation—especially on a political level, where he feels powerless and disconnected. Surprisingly, the work predates the COVID-19 pandemic, though it resonates with themes of solitude and inward reflection.

These works feature a riot of exotic flowers and harsh angles that shift with the seasons and times of day. Sometimes vibrant and jarring, other times subdued in blues, greens, and greys, the artworks echo Alhroub’s emotional landscape. He turns his garden into both subject and sanctuary, engaging with it as a healing refuge. Influences of Impressionism, particularly Monet and Rousseau, are evident in the style.

By placing himself visually on par with towering plants, Alhroub suggests a deep connection—almost a dialogue—with the flora, which seem to become his companions. Silent Garden becomes more than a physical space; it is an intimate, wordless world, a private sanctuary where the artist finds peace amid feelings of estrangement. In this series, he invites viewers through the “secret door” into that quiet inner realm.
