Rituals Under Occupation by Sliman Mansour

Sliman Mansour (b. Birzeit, 1947) portrays a solemn funeral procession, where Palestinians carry the coffin of a martyr with quiet determination. The coffin’s cross-like shape becomes a powerful metaphor for sacrifice, resilience, and the collective suffering of a people under occupation. Through expressive faces and careful composition, Mansour captures both grief and strength, reflecting a community’s enduring spirit amid loss. The painting speaks to the profound impact of violence, the importance of cultural rituals, and the unbreakable bond between struggle, sacrifice, and the pursuit of justice.
