Land Day by Sliman Mansour
Sliman Mansour (b. Birzeit, 1947) consistently displays a powerful depiction of the deep connection between the Palestinians and their land, while also shedding light on the struggles they face in defending their heritage. In this work, a Palestinian woman is seated, draped in her traditional costume and embracing a small olive tree, a powerful symbol of resilience, rootedness, and the Palestinian way of life. Through the contrast of light and dark, Mansour captures the complexities of the Palestinian experience, the struggles for survival amid difficult circumstances, and the enduring hope for a brighter future. The work stands as a testimony to the enduring spirit of the Palestinian people, who continue to nurture and protect their heritage, symbolized by the olive tree.
